Dayona's Story:
Born in Indio, California, in 1989, Dayona's love for reading began early, earning her recognition in preschool. This passion continued throughout her childhood and adolescence. In high school in Council Bluffs, Iowa, she demonstrated her commitment to community by founding "Make a Difference," a charity connecting students with volunteer opportunities at local nonprofits.
Though she initially pursued Early Childhood Education at Iowa State University, life took her to San Diego, California, where she discovered a passion for artistic photography. Following her heart back to Dixon, Illinois, she continued to serve her community, teaching at nonprofits in the Sauk Valley area. Dayona's pursuit of knowledge led her to earn a Master of Business Administration and certifications as a Personal Trainer, Nutrition Specialist, and Primary Nutrition Educator. With over 20 years of coaching experience in various disciplines, she remains a dedicated instructor at a local yoga and barre studio.
Beyond wellness, Dayona's love for gardening and community service culminated in the founding of the Dayona Farm Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting agriculture and pollinators through education. She has also contributed to numerous community boards and developed programs for diverse audiences.
In 2024, Dayona channeled her personal experience with postpartum depression into her first illustrated children's book. Transforming a poem about sadness into an uplifting story, she realized her dream of becoming an author and illustrator. Now, she aims to share her positive outlook through a series of children's picture books, continuing her commitment to inspiring and educating her community.
